MURDER victim Gerard Quinn is to be buried on Sunday almost a week after he was killed in Derry.

A father-of-one, the 24-year-old's body will be returned to his family home at Currynierin in the city later on Saturday.

Mr Quinn, who played football with St Mary’s GAC in Ardmore, was fatally injured in an stabbing in the Ardmore area on Saturday evening of last week. He later died in Altnagelvin hospital.

A 16-year-old boy has already appeared in court charged with Mr Quinn’s murder.

The boy, who cannot be named because of his age, was also charged with causing grievous bodily harm to Mr Quinn's twin brother, Michael. The teenager was later remanded in custody.

The release of Mr Quinn's remains was delayed for almost a week after lawyers for the teenager requested a second post mortem examination.

Requiem Mass will take place at St Mary’s Church, Ardmore, at 2pm on Sunday, with burial in the adjoining graveyard.
