VIABLE bomb parts have been recovered by police in Co Tyrone.

They were found during a planned search in the Evish Road area of Strabane on Friday morning.

Army bomb disposal experts were called to examine objects left in a lane off the road. The objects were later confirmed to be viable bomb parts.

They were removed for further examination.

Several homes were evacuated and roads in the area were closed for several hours during the security alert.

Sinn Féin assembly member Michaela Boyle said the alert had caused great disruption.

"These alerts do nothing for the image of Strabane," she said. "It is a great place to live and a great town to do business in and this is the last thing we need."
