THE body of a man who went into the River Lagan in Belfast city centre was recovered on Sunday evening.

Rescue teams searched the water on Friday night, Saturday and most of Sunday until the discovery was made using sonar equipment.

Police divers recovered the man's body close to Donegall Quay at around 5.20pm.

It is understood his death is not being treated as suspicious.

The man went into the water at about 5pm on Friday.

Another man jumped into the river but was unable to save him.

The sonar equipment used in the search was donated to the Community Rescue Service by the family of Joby Murphy (20), who fell into the Lagan after a gig in Belfast in January 2012.
