PSNI officers have paid their own tribute to pop superstar Prince.

Officers in Lisburn and Castlereagh posted a simple picture on social media after the news broke that the music legend had died.

The image showed a road sign with the name Prince on it, with a piece of PSNI clothing draped over it.

The body of the Purple Rain star was found at his home in Minnesota yesterday.

The American musician, hailed by Sir Elton John as the "greatest performer I have ever seen", was found collapsed in a lift.

Medical staff tried to revive the 57-year-old but he was pronounced dead at the scene, said Carver County Sheriff Jim Olson.

A post-mortem examination is to be carried out on the body of the pop superstar as the world comes to terms with his sudden death.

Meanwhile, American rapper Macklemore has also paid tribute to Prince during his gig in Belfast.

He told a packed SSE Arena last night that he was dedicating his performance of the song Same Love to the legendary musician.

Macklemore said: "We lost a musical icon, a musical genius by the name of Prince and if there is one thing Prince taught me is that when you step on stage this is a sanctuary.

"This is where all the magic takes place. The main thing Prince taught me, was that it is all about the love."
