IN an emotional tribute to her lost family, grieving Louise James penned a short poignant poem which she read aloud at Thursday’s funeral service at Holy Family church in Derry.

Her poetry recalled the anguish of the deaths last Sunday in the Lake of Shadows, a local name for Lough Swilly:

A city stunned in silence. Hearts broken beyond repair.

The tragedy of a family gone leaving so many in despair.

They went to watch the sun-set together on Buncrana pier.

Unbeknown to them all an angel would be near.

Taken together as a family, joined as one at heaven’s door.

The community left in mourning, lives shattered evermore.

Their faces will forever map the scene.

Remembered by each and every one.

Drowned in the Lake of Shadows when you look beyond the sun.
