A BODY found by search and rescue teams in the River Foyle has been identified as that of a missing Strabane man Sean Diver.

The discovery was made in the Newbuildings area by the Community Rescue Service (CRS) on Saturday morning.

Mr Diver (39) had been missing since January 27, when he was last seen on Strabane’s pedestrian bridge after leaving a friend's house in Springhill Park.

CRS volunteers had conducted repeated sweeps of the Mourne, Finn and Foyle rivers and their banks over the past month.

Police said they are not treating Mr Diver's death as suspicious at this time.

Chief inspector Ivor Morton said: "Police remain in contact with the family of Mr Diver and I would like to take this opportunity to offer my sincere condolences to them and Sean's friends at this difficult time."
