Disabled woman assaulted in south Belfast burglary

A DISABLED woman was admitted to hospital after sustaining facial injuries during an aggravated burglary in south Belfast on Sunday morning.

A man threatened and assaulted the woman, who is in her fifties, after entering the house on Beit Street at around 6am.

He then fled the scene on a bicycle along a rear alleyway.

The woman was admitted to hospital for treatment for facial injuries and shock.

Claire Hanna, SDLP Assembly member for the area, said there had been a recent upsurge in break-ins.

"This is a particularly worrying attack given the vulnerable nature of the victim and highlights the need for more police on the ground," she said.

"Whoever is responsible is clearly a complete degenerate."

Detective Sergeant Natalie McNally that police were seeking information about the incident. 

"This was a disgraceful attack on a vulnerable person," she said.

"I would urge anyone who saw a man matching this description in the area or who has any information about this incident to come forward."

The man is described as being around 6ft tall with short dark hair. He is thought to have been wearing a white hooded top.
