WHAT started as a day busking in Sydney's Central Station has seen one Portrush singer become an internet sensation.

Passing commuters were given a taste of Dave Mullan's music on Tuesday when during a day off he decided to show off his singing voice at the busy Australian station.

But it was his performance of Justin Bieber's Love Yourself that drew the attention of the crowds and within hours saw his version of the hit song go viral on social media.

The Ulster University student has been living the dream in Australia after booking a one-way ticket on his 24th birthday.

Now a year on, the singer/songwriter has been signed to an indie record label in Australia and there are plans to release two original songs soon.

Mr Mullan, a former pupil at Loreto College in Coleraine, said he was surprised by how the video had went viral within 24 hours with more than 20,000 views.

"The station has a strong footfall and great surroundings for music," he told The Coleraine Times.

"It’s also a way for me to gain more exposure for my music. I was in the middle of playing Justin Bieber's new song Love Yourself, when a woman stopped me.

"She said she worked for the Daily Telegraph and asked could she video me.

"I sang and she recorded a few songs, telling me to keep a look out on Facebook - so a few hours later I looked at my phone, and was in total shock when I saw my video online."
