FIRE crews from across Co Antrim have been dealing with a blaze at a barn in the Aldergrove area.

Six fire appliances were called to the scene of the blaze on the Ballyrobin Road in the early hours of this morning.

A spokesman for the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service said they received a call shortly after midnight to a "report of a barn well alight".

Fire crews from Antrim, Lisburn, Ballymena, Crumlin and Belfast were deployed to deal with the blaze.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, jets and hose-reel jets are dealing with a well alight barn in the area," the spokesman said.

"There is no livestock in the barn, but firefighters are moving a large quantity of dry hay from the premises.

"One residential premises in the area received some slight damage, but no reports of any injuries."

He added that firefighters remain at the scene.

The PSNI have also warned motorists travelling along the route to exercise caution as visibility may be affected by smoke.
