A WOMAN was being treated in hospital last night after being rescued from the River Lagan.

Police said the woman's life was saved by a man walking past the river near the Civic Centre in Lisburn at around 1pm yesterday.

The woman, described as vulnerable, was taken to hospital for treatment.

The man was also hospitalised.

A police spokesman said: "The PSNI worked together with one very courageous member of the public, Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service and the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.

"We are glad to report that the lady involved and the man who undoubtedly saved her life are both doing well in hospital."
