THE body of a man has been recovered from inside a car in Ballintoy harbour.

Police divers recovered the remains on Christmas Eve.

George Jamieson (61) had been missing since Saturday.

Police said they were not treating the death as suspicious.

Inspector Colin Shaw added: "The body has been recovered and efforts are ongoing to recover the vehicle."

Mr Jamieson had been staying in the seaside village and had not been in contact with friends or family since last Saturday.

He was last seen driving a silver Mercedes SLK convertible.

Land and sea searches for Mr Jamieson had focused on the area around Ballintoy harbour.

Police and the coastguard had been involved in the searches.
