Armed man steals parcels and torches delivery van

A MAN armed with a gun assaulted a delivery driver, stole parcels he was carrying and hijacked his van in Co Antrim.

Police said the driver was taken to hospital for treatment after the hijacking on the Belfast Road in Carrickfergus at around 10.15am on Monday.

The armed man got into the white Mercedes Sprinter van as it was being driven along the road and threatened the driver.

He was ordered to drive to Glencairn Road in north Belfast.

Parcels in the van were then transferred to a white Transit van which drove off.

Police said the driver was assaulted during the hijacking and his van was set alight and destroyed.

A spokesman appealed for information.
