POLICE are working to establish a motive for a suspected arson attack on a house in Portaferry in the early hours of this morning.

A PSNI spokesperson said the blaze, which is being treated as suspicious, was reported at around 3.10am. The fire occurred at an unoccupied house in Ashmount Park.

Inspector David McClements said: “The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service attended and extinguished the fire which they say was started deliberately.”

Police enquiries are at an early stage and officers are appealing for information. They can be contacted by calling the non-emergency number 101.
