Former senior agriculture official dies aged 81
A FORMER senior Northern Ireland civil servant who also served on the Republic's first food board has died at the age of 81.
Bill Hodges, a former permanent secretary of the Department of Agriculture, passed away at Nazareth Care Village in Belfast following an illness.
He was in post during the 1980s and early 1990s.
In 1993 he received a CB (Companion of the Order of the Bath) in the royal honours list.
He was later appointed to An Bord Bia, a state agency aimed at promoting sales of Irish food and horticulture.
Mr Hodges was married with three children.
His funeral will take place at St Columba's Parish Church in east Belfast tomorrow.
