A HOAX device has been blamed for causing a security alert in west Belfast.

The alert on the Glen Road led to the closure of the road between Shaws Road and Ramoan Drive on Thursday morning.

Army bomb disposal experts confirmed that the object was a hoax after an examination and a controlled explosion.

The road was then re-opened to traffic.

Detectives are appealing for anyone with any information about this incident to contact them in Musgrave Police Station on the non-emergency number 101.

Or alternately, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111
