Irish News reader Paddy has 100 reasons to celebrate

IRISH News reader Paddy McGeough turns 100 today.

He has lived in Fruithill in west Belfast for the last year, previously living in the city centre. Paddy (which he prefers to Patrick) was born in Plevna Street on October 28, 1915, went to Raglan Street School.

At the age of 14 he started working in the New Northern Mill, Northumberland Place, off the lower Falls Road when he was 14 years old as a bobbin threader.

He moved to Birmingham where he worked for the fire service during the Second World War.Paddy married Bridget McCourt on Christmas Day 1940 in St Mary’s Chapel in Belfast and they had two sons John and Patsy.

Bridget passed away in January 1999.

Paddy has 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and one great great grand daughter.
