TWO men have been arrested in relation to two shooting attacks in Newry.

The PSNI's Reactive and Organised Crime unit arrested the men following the search of a house in Churchill Park, Portadown.

A 34-year-old was arrested for attempted murder and a 20-year-old for possession of firearms in suspicious circumstances and possession of Class A drugs.

Both were being questioned at Musgrave serious crime unit.

Two men were shot in the legs during the attacks on Sandy Street and Armagh Road on September 17.

A quantity of suspected drugs and three suspected firearms were recovered during the search in Churchill Park on Tuesday.

Chief Inspector Davy Beck said: “We hope these arrests send a clear message to the community that we are committed to tackling crime and will work across districts and departments to prevent, detect and deter crime. I would also like to thank the local community for their patience and support as we continue with our investigations.”

A 26-year-old man was charged in September with two counts of attempted murder, kidnapping and possession of a firearm in relation to the shootings.
