PRIME CUTS of steak were part of a large quantity of meat stolenfrom a butcher shop in Cullybackey overnight.

Burglars forced open the back door of Ferguson Meats on Dreen Road in the Co Antrim village and stole a large quantity of meat, mainly prime cuts of beef steak.

The shop’s owner Thomas Ferguson said that it was the first time the shop had been robbed.

Mr Ferguson said the burglary was unfortunate but was “one of those things you just have to accept”.

He also said minor damage was caused to the shop and that the thieves potentially overlooked items of greater value while stealing the meat.

Police in Ballymena are appealing for anyone with information to contact them on 101 or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
