THE BODY of a man has been found in a garage in Co Tyrone.

The man’s body was discovered at the property on the Moor Road in Coalisland at around 1pm on Thursday.

The man (32) is believed to have links to eastern Europe.

Police are treating the death as suspicious and a port-mortem examination is to be conducted to establish the cause of death.

PSNI Detective Chief Inspector Lee McNevison, who is leading the inquiry has asked anyone with information concerning the man’s death to come forward.

"If anyone saw anything unusual in the Moor Road area in recent days, we would like them to contact detectives in Dungannon by calling the non-emergency number 101," he said.

Police are also investigating an incident in which a man sustained injuries, including a gunshot wound to the leg, in the town.

The man, who is originally from eastern Europe, left his home in the Clonabay area of Coalisland at about 3pm on Tuesday and returned having been assaulted on Wednesday morning.

His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Mid Ulster SDLP councillor Malachy Quinn urged anyone with information about the incident to get in touch with the PSNI.

“This type of thuggish savagery is not welcome in the town – people do not want this,” he added.
