THIS weekend's Fermanagh football final has been cancelled after the death of a former manager of one of the teams.

Damien McGovern, who was in his forties, died in a workplace accident at Ely Lodge in Enniskillen on Friday morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 10.45am.

Mr McGovern was taken to the South West Acute Hospital.

The Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI) is investigating the circumstances of what happened.

A HSENI spokesperson said: “Our thoughts are with the family at this most difficult time.”

Derrygonnelly Harps had been due to play holders Roslea Shamrocks at the clash in Enniskillen on Sunday.

Fermanagh GAA issued a statement about the match on their Twitter account.

A statement on Fermanagh GAA's Facebook page said: "Fermanagh GAA is shocked and saddened at the untimely death of Damian McGovern, youth chairperson and Minor manager of the Derrygonnelly Harps Club.

"We extend our deepest sympathy to Damian’s wife Leeanne and children, as well as the entire McGovern and McGinley families.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with all at the Derrygonnelly Harps club at this extremely difficult time and as they try to come to terms with this huge loss."
