A MERCHANT navy ensign flag is flying today in a predominantly nationalist town after a council changed its decision, again.

The flag, which includes a Union flag, is flying over the harbour at Ballycastle, Co Antrim, on ‘merchant navy day’. Causeway Coast and Glens Council told its elected representatives about the decision yesterday.

The council had initially decided to fly the flag, then made a U-turn after it was threatened with legal action by independent councillor Padraig McShane.

However, the council reverted to the original decision yesterday.
