POLICE are investigating the sudden death of 25-year-old Conall Kerrigan in the Bank Place area of Derry last night.
Mr Kerrigan's body was discovered at around 10.20pm. It is believed he had been in the Metro Bar on Saturday evening and left at around 2am on Sunday.
The 25-year-old was a member of John Mitchel GAC in Claudy and the club has cancelled all training and matches for the rest of the week "as a mark of respect to the entire family circle".
In a Facebook post the club described Mr Kerrigan as a "huge character".
"It was with a very heavy heart that we leaned of Conall's passing over the weekend. Conall was a huge character, full of craic and a good friend to his peers. His passing hurts us all. There are just no words that will make sense of this and everybody is struggling to come to terms with it.
"Our prayers and love go out to Conall, his immediate and wider families, and to all of his friends.
"Ar dheas Dé go raibh a anam. Codladh sámh a Chonall."
Detective Inspector Conor McStravick has appealed for anyone who saw Mr Kerrigan after he left the bar or who witnessed any form of altercation on the walls close to Millennium Forum during the early hours of Sunday to contact detectives in Strand Road on the non-emergency number 101. Information can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Tributes have been paid to Mr Kerrigan on social media.
