A 21-YEAR-OLD man was killed yesterday in a road crash involving a car and a coach in Co Antrim.

The crash happened on the Moorfields Road on the outskirts Ballymena at about 1pm.

Meanwhile, four people were injured in a road collision between three motorcycles and a car in Co Down.

It happened on Aughnagon Road near Mayobridge just before 2pm.

One of the motorcyclists was airlifted by police helicopter to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast where his condition was last night described as stable.

Three others were taken by ambulance to Daisy Hill Hospital in Newry and Craigavon Area Hospital.

The extent of their injuries was not known last night, but all were understood to be in stable conditions.

SDLP councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick is a neighbour of one of those caught up in the Mayobridge crash.

"The incident has left the whole community shaken," she said.

"My thoughts are with all those injured in this awful accident, especially the motorcyclist who has been urgently airlifted to the Royal hospital in Belfast. I hope and pray that everyone makes a complete recovery.

"I have no doubt that the Mayobridge community will provide whatever help and support they can to all those involved during this difficult time."

Roads near both crashes remained closed yesterday as police investigated the cause of the collisions, with motorists advised to avoid the areas.

Meanwhile, a woman reported missing after her car was discovered crashed and unoccupied on a coastal road in Co Antrim was found safe and well.

The police and coastguard had launched a major search operation along the Portstewart shoreline yesterday morning before the woman was located.

Her Toyota car had been found crashed by a member of the public on the Strand Road at about 2am.
