HOUSES were evacuated after a suspicious object was discovered in Dervock, Co Antrim.

The object was found in McArthur Avenue, which was closed to traffic after police were called to the scene.

North Antrim DUP assembly member Mervyn Storey last night claimed a pipe bomb had been found and condemned those behind it.

"Those responsible for this device have shown a complete disregard for the lives of everyone in the local community," he said.

"At this time of year there are obviously many more children playing outside and this device could have maimed or killed anyone who came into contact with it.

"It is vital that those behind such activities are identified and brought to justice."
