TWO women have escaped injury after a shot was fired through the window of a house in the St James' area of west Belfast.

The shot was fired from a passing car in the early hours of this morning.

It was reported to police at around 1.40am.

Two women who were in the Rodney Drive property escaped injury and police said a motive for the attack has yet to be established.

A silver coloured car was seen in the area at the time.

Sinn Fein West Belfast MP Paul Maskey condemned the shooting and asked anyone with information to contact police.

"This gun attack was wrong, served no purpose whatsoever and should be condemned," Mr Maskey said.

"I have spoken to the women who were in the house when it happened and while thankfully neither were injured, they are understandably very shocked and shaken.

"This incident has caused shock in the local community. They do not want this type of thing happening on their streets."
