A 30-year-old mother-of-three has died in a house fire on the outskirts of west Belfast.

The PSNI confirmed the death after receiving a report of a fire at the house in the Lagmore area shortly before 5am on Sunday.

Emergency services attended and found the body of the woman, named locally as Jennifer Dornan, at the scene. It is believed a taxi driver leaving off a fare in the area, raised the alarm.

Ms Dornan, a single parent of three young children was from the St James' area of west Belfast.

Her family and friends gathered around the scene on Sunday as police and fire crews, including forensic teams investigated the cause of the blaze.

Police said there are no further details at this stage.

Sinn Féin MLA Jennifer McCann was at the scene of the fire on Sunday.

“There is a deep sense of shock in the community this morning on the news that a woman has tragically died in a house fire,” she said.

“I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the family and friends of the woman who died,” she said.
