POLICE are investigating an attempted car hijacking in Co Down.
A male motorist was flagged down by two male pedestrians in the Peggys Loaning area of Banbridge at around midnight on Saturday.
They asked the driver to take them into Banbridge town centre and the driver agreed.
Once in the car, however, the two males became threatening and aggressive and demanded that the driver take them to Hilltown. The driver took them to Hilltown, where the men attempted to take his car from him at Rathfriland Road.
Passers-by came to the driver's assistance and the two men made off across fields. The driver was not injured but was left badly shaken.
Police have appealed for information.
