A man is believed to have been stabbed during a serious assault in south Belfast.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service responded to a report of a possible stabbing at Dunluce Avenue on the Lisburn Road area at about 6:40am this morning.

Paramedics treated a man at the scene who was said to be in a serious condition. He was later taken to Royal Victoria Hospital.

Police said the road was closed to traffic "due to an ongoing police incident".

Pedestrian access will be permitted to Dunluce Health Centre.
