5 more deaths and 313 new cases of Covid-19

Five more people with Covid-19 have died, bringing the death toll to 2,026, the Department of Health has confirmed.

One of the five deaths was outside the 24-hour reporting period.

An additional 313 people have tested positive in the most recent 24-hour reporting period with 22% of those cases among people living in Belfast City Council.

The rolling seven-day transmission rate has risen slightly to 110.1 per 100,000 of the population for the dates February 12-18. 

Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon has the highest rate (194.7) and Fermanagh and Omagh the lowest (48.8).

33,633 people have been tested in the rolling seven-day period and 2,072 - or 6% - tested positive. In the previous seven days 25,280 people were tested and 2,400 - or 9% - received a postive test result.

Bed occupancy in the north's hospitals is at 95%. However, the Ulster Hospital in Dundonald is operating over capacity. 

There are 49 people with coronavirus in ICU and all bar seven of them are being ventilated. There are 403 in-patients with Covid-19, down from 418 yesterday. Admissions of Covid-19 patients has dropped from 248 to 139.

In the same seven-day period, the highest number of new cases was among the 20-39 age group with 813 people testing positive; followed by the 40-59 group (666). The fewest new cases were recorded in the 80 and over age group (91). In the same period, there were 41 deaths.

Coronavirus clusters are present in 47 care homes, down from 79 at the start of the week.

The department has also confirmed that 466,524 vaccines have been administered to date, of which 436,143 were first doses and 30,381 were second doses.
