THE Department of Health has announced an extension to public consultation on re-shaping stroke and breast assessment care.

The consultations, due to end on August 2, will now continue until August 30.

The department has proposed that the number of breast cancer assessment services in Northern Ireland be reduced from five to three.

Between three and five hyper-acute stroke units are also proposed.

A spokesman said it had "repeatedly made clear that it wants as many people as possible to take part in these important consultations".

The department has also announced that a Newtownards engagement event on stroke care will now take place at 7pm on Monday July 29 in the Queens Hall.

A meeting this week was postponed because too many people turned up.
