NORTHERN Ireland charity Children’s Heartbeat Trust is asking the public to ‘Rock Red’ later this month.

By wearing something red on Friday, February 10, you can help the charity to raise awareness about heart disease in youngsters and raise funds for Children’s Heartbeat Trust.

Ben Kearney (6), from Belfast, who is living with a congenital heart defect, helped launched the campaign.

Sarah Quinlan, chief executive of the Children’s Heartbeat Trust said: “Congenital heart disease is the most common birth defect in Northern Ireland, with over 200 babies born here each year with a heart defect.

"It is essential that the wider public understands how it can affect children, which is why awareness campaigns like this are so important.

“This year we are urging people to get behind the ‘Rock Red’ campaign on Friday, February 10, by wearing something red to school, college, work or wherever way they may be spending the day. It could be an entire outfit of red or simply a red tie, shoes or a scarf.

“We also want everyone to get involved with the #RockRedFriday campaign on Twitter and, even better, hold a sponsored Rock Red event to help raise funds for the essential services Children’s Heartbeat Trust provides to support children with heart disease and their families in Northern Ireland.”

Children’s Heartbeat Trust is solely funded by the public, communities and businesses across Northern Ireland and appreciate any support in helping to raise awareness and funds for their work.
