A CAREERS event that allows sixth form students to learn what third level higher education has to offer, is to be held online.

Rather than visiting school and colleges this year, the University Roadshow will host two virtual sessions.

Universities signed up include Liverpool John Moores, Newcastle, the University of Dundee and Glasgow Caledonian.

The free service was originally designed to provide answers to the many questions students will be asking, to alleviate fears and make them aware of a wide range of post A-level and Leaving Certificate opportunities.

Now, students can seek advice on higher education options, including information on the Ucas application process, tuition fees, loans, budgeting and career opportunities.

Organisers said the aim was to still keep the main concept and provide students with advice with the added convenience that they would not need to leave their schools or colleges.

"These are unprecedented times and students more so than ever need to stay connected with universities to help them prepare/progress to the next crucial stage of their journey," said University Roadshow Manager Yvonne Connolly.

"The virtual University Roadshow is an excellent and innovative way to bring together students and universities. I would encourage schools and students to get involved and see what exciting opportunities there may be to study outside of Northern Ireland."

:: The University Roadshow will take place on Thursday September 24 for Northern Ireland schools and Thursday October 22 for those in the Republic.
