A UNIVERSITY in north Wales is offering students cash to attend its open day.

Wrexham Glyndwr University said it was focusing on Northern Ireland's prospective student market ahead of its September intake.

The institution had previously offered cut price accommodation and scholarships to attract Northern Ireland students.

Now it is offering £50 to those from the north who attend its June 8 undergraduate open day.

Wrexham Glyndwr in north east Wales is just 45 minutes from Liverpool.

Its cashback initiative supports those travelling to the open day which will showcase career-focussed courses, facilities and supportive approach to working with students.

The university said many of its undergraduate degrees were not offered by Northern Ireland institutions.

Some of its most-popular courses in its 2019 prospectus include mental health and wellbeing, forensic science, sports coaching and performance development and children's books, focused on writing and illustration.

Faculty of Social & Life Sciences Dean, Simon Stewart, who is from Omagh, said the university prided itself on its courses and community feel.

"Studying away from home is an incredible opportunity for students to immerse themselves in campus life, perhaps more than they would if they lived at home. In doing so students develop in other areas such as independence, adaptability and confidence," he said.

"The supportive environment we offer is the main reason our students choose us. Lecturers are always on hand to give advice should students need it and each student is allocated a personal tutor, which develops a friendly community."
