W5 is celebrating 15 years of discovery with a new educational partnership.

SSE Airtricity has joined forces with the award-winning family science and discovery centre to power its education programme for the next three years.

The launch of Education at W5 Powered by SSE Airtricity coincided with The Big Bang Theatre Show, which is running at W5 until April 10. This latest W5 production educates children about the importance of science, including the production of energy.

The education programme, which is delivered in-centre in W5 as well as in the classroom through an outreach programme, places learning in context with hands-on, curriculum-linked workshops.

Each of these workshops is designed to complement learning in school or to introduce pupils to an inspiring new area of science.

In addition to in-centre training for pupils, the SSE Airtricity-backed education programme includes a `stem'-related outreach, bringing science and discovery lessons out of the centre and into life with schools and youth community groups.

Ronan Brady, head of marketing and digital at SSE Airtricity, said working with W5 would help extend science and discovery learning beyond the classroom to children of all ages.

"In doing so we will help demonstrate to young people how science fills our lives with wonderful things and how energy in particular is there to be enjoyed," he said.

W5 general manager Judith Harvey added: "At W5 energy, including renewable energy sources, is something we help children to discover more about through workshops and interactive exhibits.

"This is what makes SSE Airtricity the perfect partner for our education programme. We also turn 15 this year and what better way to celebrate than with this exciting partnership."
