Schoolchildren are developing an `app' to help novice bakers.

Pupils at St Benedict's College in Randalstown have partnered with Texthelp, a literacy software development company, to create an app as part of the school's Connected Learning initiative.

Year 9 pupils chose to bake and sell a range of goods. Along with Texthelp who ran two masterclasses in coding, the pupils developed an app that includes ingredients lists and step-by-step instructions for others to re-create the tasty treats.

The coding classes were held to introduce new ICT skills to pupils as well as providing information on a potential new career path in a burgeoning industry with numerous opportunities.

"We are delighted to strengthen our links with Texthelp, a local IT company with a global reach," St Benedict's principal Sean McAuley said.

"As a result of our partnerships with members the local business community our students are afforded invaluable insight into how the skills they are developing in different subjects transfer to the workplace."
