Minister celebrates Emma's `perfect' primary career

A young school pupil has marked seven perfect primary years with a trip to Stormont.

Education minister John O'Dowd congratulated Emma Rafferty from Poyntzpass on her 100 per cent school attendance throughout primary school.

Emma received a plaque from St Joseph and St James' PS in Poyntzpass and a certificate from the Education Authority. She was joined at parliament buildings by her parents Paul and Amanda.

"This is wonderful achievement for Emma and her parents, so very well done to you all. I would like to wish Emma good luck as she moves on to her new school in September. It seems like she certainly deserves a good summer break after all this hard work," Mr O'Dowd said.

Emma will attend St Mary's High School in Newry in September.

Mr O'Dowd went on to wish all pupils and school staff a safe and happy summer holiday.

"As usual, the 2014-2015 academic year has been an extremely busy and productive year for all schools and therefore it is no surprise that pupils and school staff are eagerly awaiting a well-deserved break," he said.

"The freedom from school provides opportunities for young people to participate in sport and drama, visit other parts of the world and to enjoy many new experiences."
