Video: Easter Rising 1916 through the eyes of Min Ryan
IN the third of a series of videos with people who lived through the Easter Rising and were interviewed by RTE is the account of Min Ryan, the sweetheart of Sean MacDiarmada, who along with her younger sister, Phyllis visited Sean while he was a prisoner in Kilmainham Gaol on the eve of his execution.
Sean had been in the GPO during the rising and before his execution he wrote: “I feel happiness the like of which I have never experienced. I die that the Irish nation might live!”
He was executed by firing squad at the jail on May 12.
