Belfast City Council calls temporary cancellation to bulky waste collection

Collecting rubbish has never been easier.

Belfast City Council has announced a temporary halt to its bulky waste collections for households, until further notice.

The Council announced in a tweet this afternoon: “As we streamline our resources in response to Covid 19 and prioritise delivery of critical services, we are not able to provide bulky waste collections for households until further notice.”

It will collect any bulky waste already booked.

Those items defined as bulky include electrical appliances, for example televisions, and ‘white goods’, including fridges, washing machines and cookers.

Other items defined as bulky waste include furniture, mattresses and carpet, which must be dry, and covered.

As normal, the council will not collect waste which is a result of work carried out in the home, items such as bathroom suites, kitchens or fireplaces, or tyres and car parts.

Bulky waste items should not be left at entries and alleyways until the service is resumed.

All other aspects of the council’s normal household waste collection will continue.
