A BOY aged only 19 months has become the latest casualty of

the north’s roads. Ryan Cox from Belleek died following a two-car collision near Kesh in Co Fermanagh on Monday.

His family yesterday released a photograph of the toddler.

The toddler's mother was named locally as Catriona and aged in her thirties.

She was understood to remain in a serious condition in hospital.

Councillors spoke last night of their sadness at the boy's death.

A silver Renault Megane and a silver Peugeot 307 were involved in the collision on the Boa Island Road at around 3.50pm on Monday.

A man believed to be from Sligo was also injured.

A spokeswoman for Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry said he was in a stable condition.

SDLP councillor Brendan Gallagher said people had been stunned by the tragedy.

"Everyone is shocked. This is a small close-knit community where everyone knows everyone," he said.

"People are saddened by what has happened and our thoughts go out to the family."

Sinn Fein councillor Stephen Huggett said: "Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by this tragedy."

The Boa Island Road remained closed until yesterday while police carried investigations.

Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the collision to call them in Enniskillen on 0845 600 8000. ■ KILLED: Ryan Cox, of Belleek in Co Fermanagh, died following a two-car collision near Kesh on Monday PICTURE: Cox family ■ WRECKAGE: The car in which Ryan Cox died on the Boa Island Road in Co Fermanagh on Monday PICTURE: Alan Lewis/Photographer
