FASHION chain New Look is to close its store at Donegall Place in central Belfast this month.

Shoppers in the city on Wednesday learned the news after posters appeared in the windows of its premises at Fountain House announcing the move. The flagship store is to close on January 15. It is not known if the store is relocating.

The move will make way for a new, second Primark store in the city centre.

It was reported on Wednesday night that the closure of the New Look store could involve the loss of as many as 70 jobs.

Primark confirmed last month that it was planning a second store for the city centre, at Fountain House.

The news came in the aftermath of a fire in August which destroyed its flagship store at Bank Buildings. That store reopened to customers last month in a new extension at Commonwealth House on Castle Street.
