Weapons seizure in Co Down leads to arrest

A 29-year-old man was arrested yesterday following the seizure of weapons in Co Down.

The discovery was made in the New Line Crescent area of Killinchy shortly after 1.30am.

A number of knives and a handgun, believed to be a blank firing pistol, were subsequently seized.

Inspector Mark Stewart said, "We received a report that a male carrying what was described as a firearm had been spotted in the area."

The man was detained a short time later by PSNI officers, supported by Armed Response colleagues.
