A CYCLIST killed in a road crash in Co Limerick is to be laid to rest in Warrenpoint today.

Eamonn McAteer from Kilmallock lost his life as he was cycling home on Sunday night.

It is understood he was making his way home in the direction of Ballycullane Cross when he was involved in a collision with a car.

Ms McAteer, who was aged in his 40s, was taken to University Hospital Limerick, but later died. The driver of the car was uninjured.

A death notice for Mr McAteer said he was the "dearly loved son" of Edward and Ellen McAteer from Warrenpoint and formerly of Fathom Cross, Newry.

Tributes posted on social media described him as a "sound man", whose death was "so tragic".

Funeral Mass for Mr McAteer is due to take place at St Peter’s Church, Warrenpoint today at 10.30am followed by interment in Warrenpoint Municipal Cemetery.

He is survived by his parents, seven siblings and wider family circle.
