Two men aged have been arrested following an assault at a house in the Mountforde Drive area of east Belfast on Wednesday.

A group of men forced their way into the house and attacked a 42-year-old with iron bars shortly after 12.45pm.

Two men aged 65 and 36 years old were later arrested and are being held for questioning.

Detective Sergeant Corrigan said the man "was taken to hospital for injuries that are not believed to be serious. Damage was also caused to the house during the incident.

"Two women were also inside the house during the incident. Both were not injured but left badly shaken.

"We are appealing to anyone who witnessed this incident to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 562 24/10/18. Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime".
