A MAN was killed on Thursday night after being hit by a train at a Co Armagh rail crossing.

He died at the William Street level crossing in Lurgan, six months after a similar incident in the town when 19-year-old Shea Martin died at Bell's Hill crossing.

Police and other emergency services attended the scene, but the man's life could not be saved.

DUP Assembly member Carla Lockhart said: "My thoughts and prayers are with the family of the man who has died. It's very sad."

She added: "My thoughts are also with the train driver, who will be traumatised by what has happened."

Former Sinn Fein minister John O'Dowd tweeted: "My thoughts and prayers are with the deceased's family as well as the railway staff caught up in the tragedy."

A spokesman for the PSNI said the death is not being treated as suspicious.
