TRIBUTE acts who mirror the appearance of famous singers and bands have long been giving music fans a glimpse of the original.

Signing the hits and copying costumes and choreography, they can almost perfectly replicate the stage presence of the star they impersonate.

Now, an entertainer is about to embark on a different kind of tribute tour.

Corey McRae will visit venues in Ireland in the guise of one of the loudest and most controversial Las Vegas performers - mixed martial artist Conor McGregor.

McRae's appearance is as close to uncanny as is possible - having copied McGregor's tattoos, his green, white and orange shorts and his facial hair.

The English-born grappler - whose stage name is Mick Gregor - will appear as part of a 12-date tour organised by wrestling.ie, which will visit Coleraine, Newtownards, Enniskillen and Armagh.

He said he would enter the ring on his own reputation, not trailing on anyone's coat tails.

"I’m not a Conor McGregor wannabe," he said.

"I love everything about him and respect him more than anyone but I'm my own person trying to make a name for myself with my own name."

He added that while crowds will see him take on a host of larger than life wrestlers on tour, he would relish a battle with McGregor himself.

"He'd kick my ass from Ireland to England and back, without a doubt, but I bet I'd learn a ridiculous amount along the way," he said.

"Sure, why not call him out and see if he's up for it? I'd face him in the cage on a mat or in a wrestling ring, anywhere to be able to see him in action in person."
