A COUPLE have fled their home in north Belfast after gunshots were fired at the property on Sunday night.

A number of shots were fired at the house in Farringdon Gardens in Ardoyne at around 11.30pm. No one was injured in the attack.

It is understood that the couple had been under threat from dissident republicans.

The couple have since left the house and are staying with friends.

The PSNI said: "Police received the report at around 11.30pm on Sunday night that two shots were fired through the front door of a house in the area.

"Two people were in the house at the time of the incident and although they were not physically injured, both were left badly shaken.

“I would appeal to anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area around the time of the incident or who may have information which could assist us with our investigation, to contact detectives in Musgrave on the non-emergency number 101."

SDLP councillor PaulMcCusker said he had been in contact with the woman who lived at the house and said she would be staying with friends until she can be rehoused.

"We are working with a number of agencies to try and establish where we can go from here with regards to accommodation needs.

"There was a threat from an unknown group, and that was known prior to the attack and we did raise concerns about that,"he said.

"There can be no place for this type of activity, thankfully no one was hurt on this occasion, Mr McCusker added.
