A WOMAN believes a masked and armed gang who ransacked her house in Derry were also behind a threat against her earlier this month.

The 24-year-old, who did not wish to be named, was speaking after she and a friend were held at gunpoint at their home at Yeat's Court in Derry on Thursday.

The mother-of-one described how they were held at gunpoint while the gang who forced their way in smashed up furniture and windows in the flat.

Detective Sergeant Brian Reid said the man armed with a gun stayed with the women, who had been forced into the kitchen, while the other three ransacked the flat.

Speaking to The Irish News the woman said she did not know why she was targeted but believed the attack was linked to threats painted on her home earlier this month, accusing her of being a “tout” .

She said: “We got a Chinese takeaway and a couple of beer and about half nine, we were sitting around the table when the masked men came through the door.

"We saw the first one with a gun and me and my friend jumped onto the floor while he held the gun and said ‘You were warned; don’t move. Stay the f*** down.’

“While he was doing that, there was another two or three men smashing into the flat.”

The 24-year-old said threats were painted around her area four weeks ago, threatening her. She believed a particular organisation was behind both attacks but was too afraid to say which one.

She also spoke of her relief that her two-year-old daughter was not in the flat at the time and had been staying with her father.

“The people who did this are absolute scumbags," she said. "Who goes around doing this to people? How were they to know that my daughter wouldn’t be in the house. If she was, she would have been scarred for life. It’s not right.”

The woman said she has lived in the house for three years but was too terrified to stay any longer.
