PARKING enforcement officers were outside a west Belfast school yesterday where parents are continuing to stop in bus lanes to drop off their children.

St Kevin's PS on Falls Road has been the focus of dissent since a new bus lane was introduced, with parents defiantly parking outside the gates.

The 12-hour bus-lane is being used to accommodate the new Glider buses, which began full operation on Monday.

People at St Kevin's said they had nowhere else to park.

While officers from parking enforcement company NSL, on behalf of the Department for Infrastructure, were outside the school yesterday morning, it is understood no tickets were issued.

Tickets were given to motorists on Falls Road later in the morning, but none near St Kevin's.

A DfI spokeswoman said the new bus lanes were clearly marked by solid white lines on the road and blue bus lane signs.

"Anyone who drops off or collects pupils from school should be aware that they are not allowed to drive or stop in the new bus lanes during their hours of operation," she said.

"However, there are gaps in the bus lanes to allow access to side streets. The department asks everyone, including pupils, to take extra care until they are familiar with the new arrangements."
