A CHILDREN'S choir from Warrenpoint, Co Down will be the youngest to sing at the Papal Mass taking place in Phoenix Park on Sunday.

The junior choir of Mary Queen of Peace Church will be among several to perform during the World Meeting of Families final Mass, led by Pope Francis, and its members, ranging from ages seven to 16, will be the youngest to sing on the day.

Led by choirmasters Grace Somerville and Julie O'Neill, the choir will sing a total of 18 songs during the Mass at the Papal Cross in Phoenix Park, which is expected to be attended by up to half a million people.

Among the songs the choir will sing is the official World Meeting of Families (WMoF) hymn, "A Joy for all the Earth".

"We were going to take the members down to the Mass anyway, but we emailed the WMoF and learned of the opportunity to perform," Ms O'Neill said yesterday.

"The children are beyond excited at this incredible opportunity to take part directly in this historic occasion. We know they will make us all proud."
