THE work of Nobel Laureate Samuel Beckett is to be performed inside Enniskillen PSNI station.

Actor Colin Salmon will perform on Devenish Island and in St Macartin's Cathedral in Enniskillen as well as reading Beckett's Texts for Nothing No. 9 inside the town's police station this week.

The events form part of the Happy Days Enniskillen International Beckett Festival, which takes place in Fermanagh, Omagh and Cavan from August 1-5 and 18-19.

Beckett was a pupil at the former Portora Royal School in Enniskillen in the 1920s.

The police station event takes place on Friday Aug 3.

PSNI Inspector Rory Hoy said Enniskillen station was a historic site, built by Napoleonic prisoners of war in 1790s.

"It would be one of the oldest buildings on the island of Enniskillen which we have occupied since 1935. We are very proud of our station complex and its long history in the town," he said.
